Rubus fruticosus 'Thornfree' is a thornless blackberry that produces abundant and reliable yields. This blackberry bears delicious, sweet fruits that are ideal for, for example, jams, desserts or fresh blackberry juice. Thornfree is self-pollinating, so no additional pollinator is needed for a good harvest. From late April to early June, the plant blooms with striking white-pink and pleasantly scented flowers that attract bees and bumblebees. The ripe blackberries can be harvested from July through September and are then full of flavour. In addition, the plant is winter-hardy and tolerates lower temperatures well, making it suitable for long-term cultivation in the garden.
Care
Rubus fruticosus 'Thornfree' should be pruned regularly to keep the plant healthy and productive. Pruning can be done both in spring and in autumn. After harvesting, the canes that have borne fruit can be cut back completely to make room for new shoots. The blackberry prefers humus-rich, slightly acidic soil and grows best in a sunny position. At the same time, it also performs well in partial shade, making the plant suitable for various locations in the garden.
Size
On delivery, the plants have a height of 50-60 cm, measured including the nursery pot. The plants are delivered in a 15 cm diameter nursery pot.
